Volunteer Responsibilities
“Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.”
HOPE Center Volunteers must:
-
Be dependable, able to make a commitment, and have a reliable means of
transportation. The instructors and riders are depending on you.
- Enjoy working with people with disabilities.
- Be able to work around horses.
- Be in good health.
- Be able to follow instructions and help students relate to those directions.
- Be at least 14 years of age.

Volunteer training requirements:
- Attend volunteer orientation once a year.
- Receive on-the-job training.

General duties and responsibilities of HOPE Volunteers:
- Report to barn or arena and sign in at notebook at the arena.
- Assist instructors in grooming and saddling horses before classes and remove saddle and bridle and groom after classes.
- Assist in keeping barn and area around neat and clean.
- Assist riders in preparing for classes.
- Serve as a sidewalker or horse leader to the riders during the classes.
- Assist instructor or class assistant with stable management classes.
- Assist instructor during classes as needed.
- Report to instructor and sign out.
